September 2012 Frost Poll

First light frost was September 13 by my records. This last week we had 2 more days with below 32 degrees in the morning. Yesterday, the forecast included up to 1 inch possible snow. No Snow this morning, but a bit cool with a low temperature of 37 degrees. A relative heat wave.

Fall Colors
The Fall tree colors are starting to show. This is a good time to visit Ely to hike one of the area trails, such as the Bass Lake or Secret Blackstone, or canoe to see the pictographs on Hegman. Perhaps walk one of the old logging trails to hunt grouse. Good to be outside this Fall.

Fishing Report
Walleyes, bass and northern pike are biting on minnows and night crawlers. Need to do a bit more searching for walleyes. Be sure to try different depths.
Bass harvesting season is closed as of September 10, but you can still fish for them and do catch and release. Many reports of bass hitting on top water lures and doing a tail dance across the water. Get's my heart pumping when I see this.
Northern pike are being caught is 1-8 feet of water. Some big lunkers are hitting. Use buzz bait lures, 5-of-Diamond chartreues spoons with a leader & swivel, and small to medium suckers.
See you in Ely this Fall
